The Camino de Santiago (or Way of St. James) is an ancient pilgrimage walk to the city of Santiago de Compostela in the northwest of Spain. Santiago is believed to be the burial place of St. James, one of Jesus' disciples. Devout Christians from all over Europe (and beyond) have made this pilgrimage walk to visit this holy place over the centuries. And hundreds of thousands of people still walk the Camino every year - some for spiritual reasons, others not. The reasons are as varied as the pilgrims (or "peregrinos"), but the lessons that they learn on this journey are transformative.
There are actually dozens of "Caminos" or routes to get to Santiago. The most popular is the Camino Frances, popularized in the 2010 movie "The Way" with Martin Sheen. The Camino Frances starts in Saint Jean Pieds-de-Port (SJPP), climbs across or around the Pyrenees into northern Spain and then more or less meanders due west to Santiago. 772 km in all.
To learn more about the Camino de Santiago, there are many books published. Here is a great website that gives a pretty decent overview: https://santiago-compostela.net/.
