DESTINATION: SANTIAGO
4/3/2023 1 Comment Pamplona (round 1)Getting closer to the starting point of the walk. This morning we took a four-hour train ride from Barcelona to Pamplona, taking in the various orchards, decaying brick buildings and a fair bit of colorful graffiti that dotted the landscape alongside railroad tracks. We had some time to explore a bit of the old part of Pamplona, including a bite at Cafe Iruña, made famous by Ernest Hemingway where he was said to do a lot of his writing. (Note the high ceilings, carved pillars and ornately framed mirrors in the photo.) We will be back here on Sunday when we pass through as official pilgrims, but today we were tourists. So much history in this beautiful place.
